Animation is the imagination laid bare for all to see, our own personal constructed realities shared with others, story telling in it's purest form, or just a bunch of funny shit drawn for people to laugh their arses off to. It's all good.

New movie thing coming along!

Posted by TheBoogley Jan. 20, 2009 @ 5:57 PM EST

My new movie is coming along, it's only a 30 second thing with characters moving to music, but I'm working at 30 fps and putting a lot of thought into the movement. I'm thinking it's shaping up to be the best thing I've done from a technical animation point of view, and I'm going to take my time finishing it to put it in a group exhibition with some workmates in March.

Oh, and how about that Obama fellow and his little inauguration thingy, now that's some serious public speaking right there! Our Prime Minister in Australia can give a good speech, but is a bit too nerdy to pull off this sort of PRIDE IN YOUR COUNTRY thing. Well done America, I think you've made a good choice.

I'm thinking about a new idea for a collaboration to start some time in the next month, because I just can't see the street scene one working unless we were all in the same studio... I'm thinking about a mutation collaboration, similar to the morphing one but with more consideration of the changes, cute characters mutating into monsters and stuff like that.
What do you guys think?

I think the new collab idea might be a bit repeatative in the animation, because everybody would most likely just do the same type of things, but it would be quite interesting to see what people would animate if they actually put their mind to it though.

I just think go for it.

When does I go to animation club thing at fed square or wherever it is?
I would like to check it out.

Jan. 20, 2009 | 6:13 PM TheBoogley responds:

They haven't announced yet what they're going to do this year, I'll let you know.

i think it'd be a cool idea.

the morphing collab was a good idea, but it got boring watching people just animate 'inbetweener lines' between each drawing. imo that doesn't even take much skill.

NOW if you actually made a huge monster walk, as he squeezed his head in pain while mutating with globs of shit glooping out of him and body parts erupting from his back, that'd be kickass (all still stepping his feet one by one in front of him)

Jan. 20, 2009 | 6:15 PM TheBoogley responds:

you sir are insane! ;D
I like the idea, but once thing I've learned about collaborations on this site is that to be successful the idea has to be simple to encourage participation, and allow people to produce strong animation with the skills they have. If you try to produce something of disney quality and don't have the skills it looks shit, but if you work with the skills you have and simplify things to suit they can be absolutely beautiful.

Unless of course you were reading it out loud to yourself...
Nice camera dogs by the way! :D

Sweet, I'll be looking out for the collab and the animation :3

I actually thought that Obamas speech was a little dry, though >.<

Jan. 20, 2009 | 9:12 PM TheBoogley responds:

Excellent Chaddy!

You thought the speech was dry, but it made every woman in the place wet! :3

Jan. 20, 2009 | 7:23 PM Calicard says:

Hey! That mutation collab sounds good! I'd LOVE to do that, because that's a better way to show animation skill.

You can count me in!

Jan. 20, 2009 | 9:12 PM TheBoogley responds:

one... I COUNTED YOU! :D

Jan. 20, 2009 | 7:35 PM Kyaztro says:

Hells yes, I was hoping you would expand on the morphing collab because I missed out on it, hows a chipmunk turning into a dragon with tank cannons on it's back sound?

Jan. 20, 2009 | 9:13 PM TheBoogley responds:

most agreeable! :D

Jan. 20, 2009 | 7:51 PM nathanielmilburn says:

Jan. 20, 2009 | 9:15 PM TheBoogley responds:

I'm about to get CS4, so it's pretty much still going to be the same situation... But that's okay, you just use whatever you can get your filthy flippers on! :D

Jan. 20, 2009 | 11:32 PM TheBoogley responds:

If it worked it would've been the shit, but chances are it would've fallen apart and just been shit. ;)

Jan. 20, 2009 | 11:16 PM Starogre says:

yes. i agree. however, there are more than enough amazing animators to do that. just PM them and see if they are interested. you can definitely PM me about it cus i'm interested in some sweet frame by frame animation :)

Jan. 20, 2009 | 11:32 PM TheBoogley responds:

Yes sir, I think I will! :D

aw, you're all happy again... you've got the monthly mood swings? :3

Jan. 21, 2009 | 2:56 PM Goat-Man says:

I love the silly clapping no-neck bear man!
Awesome!

I think that collab sounds a little to much like the last one.
Although it is sad with the other idea, I have to agree. It would have to be done by all one person, or with a group of people all in one room working together.

Hope to see you host another awesome collab!
But I just don't know what to think about another morph :|

Jan. 21, 2009 | 3:01 PM TheBoogley responds:

It won't be the same, it'll pretty much be using the same keyframing principle to change a cute character into a monster... COME ON MAN!! :O

Actually I've got a great idea! They'll be rollovers, when you roll the mouse over the cute character it changes into the monster, and it could be like a big VCAM that pans around the scene as the viewer moves their mouse, one big scene full of cute kids which turn into monsters! How about that?

Jan. 21, 2009 | 3:40 PM Goat-Man says:

Questing around a huge sea of cute little goofy guys turning into monster would be pretty fun!
Maybe some sort of way to make sure the viewer sees all of them though? Not sure how that would be done. Maybe they just each have their own little pen then you visit.

Would you morph your own cutie to a monster? Or would there be a switch up thing like before?

Jan. 21, 2009 | 6:00 PM TheBoogley responds:

hmmm... the switch up would be more collaborative, but doing your own would maybe turn out better... I say the switch up... what did you think, Mr Goat?

Jan. 21, 2009 | 5:30 PM MarkP0rter says:

Well, you know or don't you kennet or haven't I told you

look, the dusk is growing! Your branches lofty are taking root.
And your cold cher's gone ashley. Fieluhr? Filou!

Jan. 21, 2009 | 6:02 PM TheBoogley responds:

don't go breaking my heart!
I couldn't if I tried...

Jan. 21, 2009 | 6:15 PM fluffkomix says:

is that the yeti?

Jan. 21, 2009 | 9:36 PM TheBoogley responds:

sure, why not :3

Jan. 21, 2009 | 6:59 PM Snipergen says:

Can't wait man. Your stuff is really good and smooth.

Jan. 21, 2009 | 9:36 PM TheBoogley responds:

like baby poop! :D

Jan. 24, 2009 | 6:54 PM Goat-Man says:

I say do the switch up again.
So you always start as your cute guy, and change to someone else's monster?

Jan. 24, 2009 | 8:23 PM TheBoogley responds:

Great minds think alike Goat-Man!

Jan. 24, 2009 | 8:44 PM sucho says:

i'm doing a solo flash like that too, lolz.

a while back i tried something with a little dot conveying the evolutionary cycle, fish to reptile to dinosaur and so forth. i never got around to finishing it, but i'd love to see that concept done on newgrounds if it hasn't already. it was great doing the morph because there were set parameters, this must turn into this. so i'm not sure how that could pan out with that thought, but it might spark some ideas....

Jan. 25, 2009 | 2:15 AM TheBoogley responds:

evolution... hmm... I've seen it done here before... I think.

Jan. 24, 2009 | 8:46 PM sucho says:

it's too bad not everyone has a well-hewn out avatar or image of themselves on newgrounds, i mean, it would be neat to see - lets say - your bubblegum bear morph into someone else's avatar and so forth. a good way to show off your skills and acquaint ng with people's personas.

Jan. 25, 2009 | 2:16 AM TheBoogley responds:

Avatar advertising... hmm... this one is good, but a little narrow...

Jan. 24, 2009 | 9:21 PM sucho says:

*ponders longer* hmmm.. i think that's a good idea really... each person could take charge of their own icon, with the previous person's icon as the first frame, and then animate their own personalized entrance, it wouldn't have to be morphing, it could be bursting out of their stomach, popping out of portals, or just running along smacking coin blocks, whatever strikes their fancy, and finish with their sn and person in a typical "moneyshot" then the next person uses that as their starting point. kind of the opposite setup from OBMO just limit it to a set number of frames, and i'm sure people would jump at the chance for self-advertising.

Jan. 25, 2009 | 2:19 AM TheBoogley responds:

I do like it... But I want to make something that everyone can participate in and make something good... it's kind of like trying to find a needle in a haystack. That's some good pondering though, you ponder with the best of them. If there was a ponderolympics you'd represent your country and do well! Me on the other hand...

Jan. 25, 2009 | 2:49 AM sucho says:

all my best ponderlympic event ponderings happen here. honestly i never get good ideas elsewhere. of course no one else has anthropromorphized gifs to spur me on

Jan. 25, 2009 | 5:10 PM TheBoogley responds:

Thinking hypnotised by the beat of the claps?... clap... clap... clap. Sandwich?

Jan. 25, 2009 | 2:51 AM sucho says:

and screw my country. we dont have elephants or icecaps or cheese-rolling competitions.

5Gh COmMENZTXS OMGZ :O!!!!!1!11!!2

Jan. 25, 2009 | 5:12 PM TheBoogley responds:

It's my country too, and I'm right there with you... Maybe we could steal an elephant each from Melbourne zoo and some frozen cheese from Queen Victoria market, then play ELEPHANT ICE CHEESE ROLLING POLO HOCKEY in the city somewhere?

or not.

Jan. 25, 2009 | 5:21 PM sucho says:

sounds like the greatest plan ever in my opinion. looks like the claps are getting to you too.

Jan. 25, 2009 | 5:35 PM TheBoogley responds:

I've got the clap? :O

Jan. 26, 2009 | 9:07 PM Teenplayer84 says:

A lot of young people here was influence by Obama
Anyway, Cute thing turning ugly sounds cool...but man that's sounds like a challenge.

As for the next animation, multiple dance styles?

Jan. 26, 2009 | 11:28 PM TheBoogley responds:

crazy moves the likes of which Napoleon Dynamite dreams! :O

Jan. 28, 2009 | 9:51 PM PaperBat says:

Jan. 29, 2009 | 3:32 PM TheBoogley responds:

You won't have to wait much longer, I'm just adding the preloader now...
