Animation is the imagination laid bare for all to see, our own personal constructed realities shared with others, story telling in it's purest form, or just a bunch of funny shit drawn for people to laugh their arses off to. It's all good.

Superheroes Schmooper-Schmeros!

Posted by TheBoogley Sep. 29, 2009 @ 10:37 AM EDT

I've just gotten home from another Animation Club Secret Handshake Screening. This months theme was Superheroes and I made this movie in three days for it. For some ungodly reason it was the most popular on the night, winning me a stack of DVDs, a week on ArtsHub and the choice for next months topic. I couldn't decide on a topic, so I spun "the wheel of topics" (a spinning wheel like wheel of fortune but smaller with topics on it) which chose Farm Animals... damn.

MY SUPERHEROES THING!! WATCH IT!! I DARE YOU!! :O

For those of you who don't know what secret handshake is, it's a monthly screening in a Melbourne Bar whereby people make short animations on a chosen subject and the viewers vote for their favourite, a lot of my Newgrounds submissions were made for these screenings.

If you haven't seen this yet, you must, It's Blu and David Ellis collaborating on a gigantic animated graffiti project. AM-AZ-ING!!

.

Oh and if you haven't been to my website yet, you really should. It's good for you!

here's a new loop, I couldn't live with the last one that was made by cheating... forgive me Luis :3

It's great, I've met some great people and the deadline gives me the motivation to make something. Otherwise I would just sit and procrastinate and never make anything.

As always, I must say, "cheers, my good man." That was excellent Boogley. A really quaint concept and your trademark "wiggley" animation made for quite a show. Great work!

I must say, "Thank you, oh mighty Bigfoot3290, leader of the bigfeet."

You have a very interesting style. Kinda trippy and disturbing, but at the same time can be cartoonish and innocent.
I think most NGers think every animation needs a cock joke and a "plot", but fail to realize that animation can just be a piece of art in the animators style.
Good job!

Sep. 30, 2009 | 12:44 AM TheBoogley responds:

Thanks for your support JaShinYa! Love the glitter glasses! :D

Oct. 3, 2009 | 11:27 AM TommyVF says:

Do you know any nice animation/creative school in Melbourne or Australia? Are you currently goin to a creative school in Melbourne now?

Oct. 3, 2009 | 6:59 PM TheBoogley responds:

It depends on what you want to get out of it.

RMIT have a solid course called Animation and Interactive Media which focus' on storytelling and personal expression through animation. They have had success with independant film making graduates.

Deakin university have a Bachelor of Film and Digital Media, which has a large 3D component and they even have a motion capture lab. Deakin is good for landing work in both the games and film industry.

Swinburne has a Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Design) which teaches graphic design for animation, web and game development. I don't know very much about that one, but it could lead to work in more general graphic design areas like web design and advertising.

The most long running and successful course I've seen people come through is run by the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) and it's a one year post graduate course called the graduate diploma in Film and Television (animation stream). They don't teach technical skills but more guide people's research and help them to become animators, with most of the graduates going straight into the animation industry the next year. Adam Elliot, who won the oscar for HARVIE KRUMPET did this course in 1996.

Sir I have been practicing my Aussie accent and I need a little fine tuning, you need to get a Skype and coach me as I may be moving there as an adult.

Oct. 4, 2009 | 2:16 AM TheBoogley responds:

seriously? it seems that everyone is moving here... what's going on?

Oct. 4, 2009 | 12:47 PM Kweaks says:

Idk sir, it just seems like I belong there.

Also, I might work something up for the secret handshake just for some feedback. If by some crazy crazy crazy off-chance mine is the most popular then you take the prize. But yeah, I haven't really done too much animating in a while.

Oct. 4, 2009 | 4:20 PM TheBoogley responds:

I get the prize? 8D
you better win then :3

Oct. 5, 2009 | 6:22 AM Crazy80sguy says:

Hey man just saying that your animations are epic, you have this unique style where your characters can just transform like modelling clay or something. Never seen anything like that since Ol' Morph. And that Bear to the top left - its hypnotic like a lava lamp. :)

Oct. 6, 2009 | 6:55 AM TheBoogley responds:

Thanks man, I never know how to respond to compliments... :)

Oct. 7, 2009 | 2:13 PM TommyVF says:

Wow, thanks for the tips and info! So VCA is only one year? Can't you do any more years there?

Oh, and what do you do?

Oct. 9, 2009 | 1:32 AM TheBoogley responds:

I think the VCA offers a three year degree aswell, but the post graduate program is the one with the most success...
I teach Illustration and Design at NMIT in Preston and Fairfield. I'm doing some post graduate study at RMIT in graphic design. LOGOs are fun... :(

This fish made 4 touchdowns in its last hockey game. After that it ate cheesecake with its side face, Blorbus, and then decided to spin around in this cycle of a neverending post/animation. And that's where I come in. Gewd.....gewd.

Oct. 9, 2009 | 1:33 AM TheBoogley responds:

well puck me, I never realised it played hockey! 8O

Oct. 8, 2009 | 4:53 PM Jesuslizard says:

I went to a party at the local county jail
All the cons were dancing and the band began to wail
But the guys were indiscreet
They were brawling in the street
At the local dance at the local county jail
Well the band were playing
And the booze began to flow
But the sound came over on the police car radio
Down at precinct 49
Having a tear-gas of a time
Sergeant baker got a call from the governor of the county jail
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
I love to hear those convicts squeal
Its a shame these slugs aint real
But we cant have dancin at the local county jail
Sergeant baker and his men made a bee-line for the jail
And for miles around
You could hear the sirens wail
Theres a rumor goin round death row
That a fuse is gonna blow
At the local hop at the local county jail
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Sergeant baker started talkin
With a bullhorn in his hand
He was cool, he was clear
He was always in command
He said blood will flow;
Here padre
Padre you talk to your boys...
Trust in me -
God will come to set you free
Well we dont understand
Why you called in the national guard
When uncle sam is the one
Who belongs in the exercise yard
We all got balls and brains
But somes got balls and chains
At the local dance at the local county jail
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Is it really such a crime
For a guy to spend his time
At the local dance at the local county jail
At the local dance at the local county jail
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
