Animation is the imagination laid bare for all to see, our own personal constructed realities shared with others, story telling in it's purest form, or just a bunch of funny shit drawn for people to laugh their arses off to. It's all good.

A couple of inspirational clips I wish I had made

Posted by TheBoogley - January 19th, 2010

Hey there, you lowdown duded-up egg sucking guttertrash. How's it going?

Another week and I still haven't completed the second Sketchy Friends clip, but I have started to compile a bunch of my walk sequences into a something I will submit to the portal, so soon there will be two new things. Both just might be ready this time next week but don't hold your breath. It always takes longer than I expect to clean things up and get them ready to show. I'm back at work now too so that may or may not throw a spanner in the works...

So, since I don't have anything of my own to show you I thought I'd show you a couple of clips that I wish I'd made. These are both very near the style and mood I've been going for in my work.

Return as an animal by Bruno Dicolla

/* */
Dance of the neon knight by Paul Rayment

.
/* */
The Sandwich Twins made by Tim Ruffle using Flipnote Studio on the DSI

.
/* */
Now as always here's a new walk sequence, getting the swinging arms to delay and sync up right took ages. The whole loop took about 6 hours in total... six hours I'll never get back... unless I... no... that'd never work.

Whew, great animations, the both of those guys. Also, lol, your walking cycle is amazing. I wish I could animate as good as that. Christ, you need to make a tutorial or something!

I've got a walk cycle tutorial up on vimeo; http://www.vimeo.com/6840899

Wow I LOVE the second vid. The character animations really do remind me of your animation style in a way.
Can't wait to see sketchy friends!

Yeah! I really love that Neon Knight, it's so deceptively simple.

well ...dont worry boogley even though if you never made those clips you posted dosent mean u can think of something better. he he he long arm bird walking
:3

I like that encouragement, it's almost like something Gandhi would say :)

ah! Let me know when you do finish Sketchy Friends :) Im looking forward to it :D

me too, I was planning on making that as a quick thing to sharpen my eye for a bigger project then it got out of control and two months past... I need to get this monkey off my back {:0

"Dance of the neon knight by Paul Rayment" PURE GENIOUS

yeah, I thought you'd probably go for it mate :D

WHEN WILL YOU UNLEARN?

"why can't we all unlearn to get along," Mother Theresa

Animal one was alright. Seemed like it was a couple of After Effects filters (I could be wrong tho :/ ). The Neon knight one was really cool, I liked the color and smoothness. The whole animation was well done. The last one was hilarious lol i love how the simplest things can be soo (we should spell it like this, similar to how we spell "to" and "too") entertaining. I remember seeing someone make a thread a few days ago asking if anyone had used picochat on the DS to make an animation, maybe i'll link him here.

yeah, I'm pretty sure that Tim Ruffle works at Aardman. They were commissioned to make a bunch of animations for the release of Flipnote Studio to show it's potential. I'm not positive about that but I have a Sherlock Holmes style hunch.

sir, we have differing tastes in animation

how can that possibly be

Oh man! Snazzy walk cycle there!

thanks, I liked the flying saucer walk in your reel, and the sketched out jump into the water and picking up the bush

Neon Knight was incredible and the Sandwich twins was funny :)

correct and correct, that gives you a score of infinity! :D

heheh very nice :)

A lot of people don't have much food on their table,
but they've got a lot of forks and knives
and they've gotta cut sumthin'

do you animate straight forward or are you layering the limbs and such? It looks like stright FBF on one layer.

anywho, can't wait to see the eye candy you come up with for us.

it's all on one layer, keyframing and inbetweening, I have a plan for how each bodypart will move but I find it easier to do it all together so that I get the relationship right between them all when they move. I find when I draw them all on different layers that when I watch it move at the end the relationships are wrong and the whole thing looks unnatural

stuffed figs are delicious

Aaw Dude you have no idea how much of a big fan i am of your work! I started to do flash and i love doing animation in FBF. tweens is okay for shorcuts but if you want to make something epic. FBF is your best friend!

thanks mate, I know you from happy step

Neon Knight was pretty epic.

epic is definitely the word for it, I put it up there with Jason & the Argonauts

Is the animal one rotoscoped? Either way still very impressive.

I'm pretty sure it is but the stitched fluro line style really gets me!

ok dude! lets comment the 3 vids:

1-ok, tha was just....ehhh....hpmph....did you see mah review avatar? ok...i think that.
2-the dance of duh neon night was cool, as ur flashes, in resume "COOL C: "
3-the last one was funny olol.

now u see what i think of duh 3 vids, in RESUME TIME! by carlos198 (the ads go down of this comment)

okay, so;
you didn't like the first one
you did like the second and third
then after that I have no idea what you're saying... :3

Butter... Yay!
Jam... Woohoo!
