Animation is the imagination laid bare for all to see, our own personal constructed realities shared with others, story telling in it's purest form, or just a bunch of funny shit drawn for people to laugh their arses off to. It's all good.

Looking at this whole power of three idea thing, I've been thinking about possible game ideas.
I found this thing pretty inspiring... but I don't own any sheep. :(

I'm going to be working with Kajenx on the power of three thing, we just have to figure out what the hell we're going to make now... If you're reading this mate, I've been out of town for the weekend and have just walked back into the house. I'll try to catch you on AIM tomorrow... blah blah.

I got myself a book on flash game design and revised my skills in trig which wasn't so bad, but now I'm up to a bit about quadratic equations, which I just can't handle. I've been using actionscript on and off for a few years now and understand the language pretty well, but I'll be damned if I can remember any of the maths... poop. It's interesting though and I'm going to struggle through the book and hopefully come out with a better idea of what can and can't be done with the stuff, then I'll copy and paste things out of other people's code and call it my own! :D

here's a mighty gif created as part of a mighty part I made for a mighty collab for the mighty goatman!
mighty!

If you were a squid what would you write with your ink?

Game inspiration!

I've had no internet at home for a week now... It was good at first, I was getting more work done and spending more time interacting with the people around me, but now, now I'm sick of that and want to watch silly pictures!

I'm typing this at my parent's house, the computer and connection are so slow here that it takes a couple of seconds for every letter I type to appear on the screen. ARGH!

A blokes coming around tomorrow morning to fix my connection, hopefully I'll be able to upload my latest bit of stuff tomorrow night.

Here's a kitty walking with floppy parts. It's all about overlapping actions to get the whip crack look.

waiter, there's a cat walking on my interwebs!

Brace yourselves for I have a story to tell...

I went out to dinner a week ago, with my wife Melanie, Luis and Ross. Luis and I ordered the clay pot... and then we waited. After some time had past we were getting pretty edgy, almost considering devouring each other, when Melanie said, "I think your claypot just walked past."

the above events and some free time led to the creation of this gif.

I has no life.
end of story.

Luis sneaky claypot incident!

Dear Diary,

I'm still recovering from the events of Saturday at the Melbourne meet.

We had a wonderful civilized lunch, except for the fact that Lochie kept hitting me and playing mechano with the pegboards I brought in to give out, everything was going along swimmingly. But then I made a fatal error, I chose beer over lazertag, sending me spiralling out of control...

I remember the evenings events as a blur of flipping acrobatical metroid characters, a publicly urinating Arnold Schwartzernegger, curry in the gutter, one on one Galaga wars with a broken fire button, trying not to giggle as a drunken maniac talked me through his sexy times, and capped off by an insane taxi driver speeding me home, bouncing the car over speedbumps.

Somewhere in the middle of all this Ross spoke to me through the haze, demanding I provide him with a unicorn rearing up and flailing its hooves about... so Ross this one's for you.

The next day was a write-off until about 4pm. I'd promised to show Luis and Ross around Melbourne, take them to the zoo to show Luis drop bears and there I was lying in bet with a trusty bucket by my side. The shame was too much, so I dragged my steaming carcass into the shower, then to the car, dressing myself inbetween and picked them up to take them to dinner and show them some aussie cuisine in St Kilda. My wife phoned a friend who lived in St Kilda if they had a good fish and chip shop, she recommended a fancy seafood restaurant. So we had an assortment of good aussie tucker; octopus tentacles, giant prawns, and malaysian seafood laksa clay pots.

Chuck another octopus tentacle on the barbie... err... mate.

So anyways, I'd like to announce the Melbourne meet a hilarious success, it was fantastic to meet some of you guys (I'm still trying to match usernames to faces) and without further ado, Ross here is your unicorn.

Anyone for some Uni Porn, err, I mean Unicorn?

I've got nothing special to say except that I love every last one of you smelly slobs and I'm looking forward to meeting some of you on Saturday at the meet in Melbourne.

hugs and kisses...

your pal.

P.S. Stop leaving the toilet seat up, you're mum called to say she's sick of having to torpedo your brown submarines.

P.P.S. I drew a robot running with rockets and everything! I'm super proud of it and want you to praise me.

gif peace a chance

John Kelly is this weeks crazy animator. I love the mix of techniques and the huge amount of work that has gone into these pieces, but more importantly I love the fact that even with all the careful planning and the huge amount of time they would've taken to produce they still seem spontanious.

oh, and here's a walking bird, long legs and low knees... very fetching.

Who needs wings when we've got legs?

I've been watching lots of viral animations and mobile ads this week... One day I hope I'll be able to come up with something as mindblowingly catchy as this;

Its a bit wobbly but it's the most complicated animated loop I've attempted, so I'm pretty happy with it.

Zekey, if you're out there, I love you. xoxoxo

FLYING CAR!! :O

I has been watching movies again...
I don't want to step on Zekeys toes, but well, his feet are so huge, and the movies he shows are crappiest pieces of crap that ever crapped, so I thought I'd show you the real thing.

David O'Reilly is a mad genious who pushes the boundaries of animated story telling in the following short film, "Please Say Something". It basically takes the classic cat and mouse animation theme and turns it on it's head... and it looks unlike anything I've ever seen... I'd love to hear about what you guys think of it.

.

A friend of mine will be directing a play in August and has given me the task of making a 2 minute animated prologue to project onto the set at the start of the show, which I'm pretty exited about. It's kind of Tim Burton like, with death and graveyards and classical music... when I get stuck into it I'll show you guys a preview.

Also I am still animating random loops... It's tough being an asthmatic balloon

I am, therefore... I know you are but what am I

I found another animator whose work I can't get enough of, and with work similar to the style I'm getting out of raping and pillaging my way though my old sketchbooks for drawings and ideas.

I made a character model sheet out of the strutting dog character from a few newsposts ago, then thought I'd take the rotating views and inbetween them to spin him around.
Watch him til you vomit!

SPINNING DOG :O

I'm back at work again, both on animation and bread winning... mmm bread.

I'm continuing with the whole character design brainstorm thing for the time being, pillaging my way through all of my old sketchbooks redrawing any wierd characters that I find remotely interesting in flash and moving them around. Highlights so far are a wheezy balloon character which breathes in and out, and a weird bird with really long legs... I'm just going to keep going on this until I run out of sketchbooks, compile the pieces and put them to music, so it might not be finished for a few more weeks. I'm really enjoying it, and when it's finally done I will finally come up with a story to tell with some of the characters.
The music I'm using this time is the boat ride by quayquay17.

Anywaayyy... I've been watching videos on youtube and vimeo a lot now that I've got accounts there. One of my favourite series is nockFORCE, created by two of the funniest guys ev-er. Here are a couple of my favourites.

oh and here's another old animation I've just found lying around of the elephant everyone calls "penis face".

back to work... for serious.
