Hi!

I've made a new abstract animation based on overlapping layers of folding origami which combine to create patterns and pretty stuff.

I created the piece to test my skills in design and animation principles, most notably in using overlapping actions to exaggerate the weight of movements. If overlapping actions are executed well enough in drawn animation the movements can be more iconic and believeable than in most big 3D productions.

That was an interesting effect. It had some sort of psychological effect on me though, I don't know why but it all felt like staring into an inkblot and seeing the most beautiful thing in the world... Symmetry..... so symmetrical and neat......

Uhm, yeah. Sorry. I have a thing for symmetry, plus it sort of reminded me of how I draw; I often tend to draw countless symmetrical shapes in various ways until they morph into a familiar figure. Oh and thanks for the Hertzfeldt toon as well.

yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I love the power symmetry has over people, it makes anything seem powerful and meaningful. I do the same kinds of abstract symmetrical drawings in my sketchbook all the time too, most of my characters come from this kind of play. I don't know whether to be happy to know that you share my interest in this, or sad because I'm no longer unique... :3

Don't worry, your art is still probably more unique than mine. My stuff is not as complex and impressive, plus I can't animate. =< I do find it interesting that you do use the whole drawing from symmetry thing though.
